How to interpret Big Data in Biodiversity: Lessons from eBird and iNaturalist by Dr Ashwin Viswanathan, Bird Count India, NCF.
So many of us enjoy watching and learning from nature in our daily private lives. Advances in technology now allow us to aggregate our private knowledge on public platforms, creating aggregated datasets and treasure troves of information that were unthinkable in the past. In this talk, Ashwin will share examples of insights derived from emerging datasets, and discuss how you can play a role in building a greater understanding of nature.
Ashwin is a mechanical engineer from BITS Pilani who did his doctorate in ecology from ETH Zurich. Some of his past research has focused on forest dynamics but he has been increasingly fascinated by the power of citizen science in the past few years. He now focuses on the use of citizen science as a tool to better understand birds and nature.
