This program started in 2009 as we wanted to help poor and struggling families to get a better life. Money is always the big problem. We wanted to teach them a skill, so that though they are uneducated, they can make a living and help their families. Garbage is a huge problem here in the Philippines, so to use garbage and turn it into attractive items would serve a dual purpose. Rice sacks and animal feed sacks here are made of reinforced plastic, and they are printed in colorful designs. These sacks would just end up on the rubbish dump, but now, they are cut, folded and woven into small purses and very large beach bags - and a whole string of different sizes and shapes in between.
