I've heard this tune all my life, but for some reason I haven't been able to get it out of my head lately. Sad world, sad song. Maybe that's it.
There was a woman in the studio when Hank cut this one. It was just a year or so before he drank himself to death, and he was already getting bad. The woman said it was so hot he had to take his shirt off. Standing there alone at the mic, she said "It seemed like all he was...was voice. It came up from I don't know where."
