Here's another quick demo with the D3 string replaced by a D2 string for a bit more low end. This now makes all the strings linear (they go strictly up in pitch, whereas before the G3 string had higher strings on either side of it). Again, the sound quality is pretty bad (and my playing ability is nothing to write home about either), hopefully you can hear the difference.
If I go for this tuning I will pick up some extra hard tension strings, as the a) dropped tuning and b) shorter scale length (625mm) makes for a bit more slack on the strings than I would want.
Another option (which I don't have the strings for right now) is to leave the D string at D3 and change the octave G strings into either unison (both at G3) or put one G string at G4.
More experimentation is required, but I do like the sound of this one.
