Lord Mithras A description of the history of the Roman worship of Lord Mithras. Though what scholars fail to see is that Roman soldiers up to the 4th century were not allowed to be married. So they couldn't bring their wives and other family members with them when they went on campaign. The soldiers had to rely on one another. So when one looks at the Mithraeum that have been built throughout the Roman empire of course they won't find any thing about women followers. So of course it looks like the faith looks like it was male oriented. But I serious doubt that this was really the case. When you are apart of a faith you want to share it with your family, so it would be natural to include family member in it or at least share with them that you are apart of it. Plus since Christianity stole many of the rituals of Mithraism and eventually built their churches on top of Mithraeum that they destroyed, it is understandable that we currently don't have many writings about the faith from those who followed it. Also since the majority of the scholars who write about Mithraism are themselves Christians, it is natural that they wouldn't want to dig too deeply into the faith. Therefore they need to keep the knowledge about it limited and they try to make it look unappealing to others and potential converts. And one of the levels of membership was called "Nymphus or Bride/Bridegroom". And I don't think that you would have such a feminine title in a male oriented religion unless there were women present in the faith. Think about it. Just to clarify: The only scholars that I know who are not Christian and who have written about Mithraism are DM Murdock and Payam Nabarz. So when I am referring to Scholars in this video description I am of course not referring to them.
