My favorite way to practice instrument approaches is in actual instrument weather. On this mild December day, I went out to fly two approaches (ILS to runway 9) in Cedar Rapids. Visibility was a half mile; the ceiling was 200 feet overcast - right at minimums. Several aircraft were going missed that day, including me on the second approach. So I ended up getting three approaches.
