Composting is biological decomposition of organic constituents of wastes under controlled conditions. The result of the decomposition process is compost/humus, a crumbly, nutritious material. In addition to direct advantage of compost as fertilizing agent the indirect advantage is the process of composting can greatly reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills or incinerators. However one of the important considerations is to meet with quality criteria specified by the Fertilizer Control Order (FCO), 2009 and 2013 in India. Hence it is necessary to attend some operational parameters. This video is an educational resource and is focused on operational parameters such as Organisms, Moisture, Temperature, C/N ratio, Seeding & Aeration affecting composting process. Here as one learns the content, he/she will be able to explain factors affecting composting process and also estimate MC & C/N requirement for composting.
