Make Charcoal and Turmeric Soap: Cold Processed Method

Join me as I make natural handmade soaps using activated charcoal and turmeric. Charcoal helps gently detoxify and cleanse the skin, while turmeric may add soothing properties. Together, they create a beautiful plant-based soap. Receipe: Please note: I made this recipe with the oils and butters I had at home to use them up. It works fine, but could be improved by tweaking the oil mix or amounts- so feel free to adjust it to your liking. Olive oil- 336 gr Grape seed oil- 70 gr Coconut oil- 210 gr Shea butter- 84 gr NaOH- 103.75 gr Water- 154 gr ** (Read below) **Soap Maker’s Note: This recipe uses 154 g of water, which is a 22% water-to-oil ratio (a severe water discount). Water discounting makes soap trace and thicken faster, helps it harden more quickly, and reduces curing time- but it also leaves less time for swirls and may cause the batter to seize if we are not careful. 👉 If you are not using this exact recipe, always run your formula through a soap calculator (such as SoapCalc) to adjust the correct water weight for your oils. Optional: I dissolved 1 tablespoon of raw honey in water before adding the NaOH, as additives like sugar and honey can help boost lather in soap. Be careful, though- sugar causes the lye solution to heat up even more, so always use heat-resistant containers. 👉 A common workaround is to add honey or sugar to the oils instead of directly into the lye solution.
