DECA is an educational organization that "... prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe." The local DECA, that my wife is involved in as an advisor, were preparing for a competition and needed a gavel. She commissioned me to make one. I turned it out of blocks glued up from 3/4" walnut that I had in my shop. It was finished it with spray shellac.
