Making bokashi spray
To mist-spray microbes onto food waste as a fermentation starter--bokashi method. A mist will more likely penetrate the surface of the food waste, while a regular spray bottle will produce larger droplets that will more easily roll off the food waste. The mist-spray bottle in this video is 16 fl oz (1/2 quart) size. This amount of the solution mixture should treat around 15 gallons of food waste (or three 5-gallon buckets of food waste, roughly 75-120 pounds of food waste). The mixture shown in this video: 1 fl oz blackstrap molasses + 3 fl oz Activated EM + water (~12 fl oz). For a stronger effect, double the amounts: 2 fl oz blackstrap molasses + 6 fl oz Activated EM + water (~8 fl oz). Use double the amounts if you more regularly deal with food waste that has started to rot/stink. Or, if you simply want to make sure your fermenting food waste will smell more vinegary and/or sweeter, minimizing or preventing foul odors---requires using a perfectly airtight container to ferment your food waste.
