Making vessel performance easier for crew
Yes, crew can do a lot to improve performance and reduce emissions, including adjusting generators, minimising speed, following recommended routes, keeping engines at a static speed, and providing data to the office. But its extra effort on top of a job which is already highly demanding, and requires people already suffering from information overload to absorb more information. And it does not usually provide any additional reward or even seeing that the effort is recognised, and can lead to extra complexity and even risk. In this webinar we look at ways to do more for crew, including making it easier for them to get awareness of how their emissions are reducing or are potentially reducing, making it easier for them to understand how to manage emissions, and making them more aware of the results of their efforts, whilst avoiding information overload. This is the third in our series of 3 webinars over Jan-March 2024, looking at different ways digital tools can help maintain people's situation awareness. We'll look at awareness of our ETS exposure, awareness of which CII score we are heading towards, and maintaining crew awareness of what to do to improve vessel performance without information overload. Improving vessel performance is hard, compliance with emissions regulations is hard, and doing all of this while maintaining commercial viability is hard. The most useful tools may be those which help with our situation awareness, so we know as much as possible about where we are. Digital tools to manage processes may be easier to build, but how useful can they be if we don't yet know what the right processes are?
