Making Yucca Sandals

In this episode, I demonstrate how to make yucca sandals out of bananas yucca, from start to finish. First I briefly teach the history of footwear in ancient America. Then I show how to harvest yucca, how to roast it, how to cut it, and how to make it into rope for the sandal straps. And then I finally weave a pair of sandals and show what it is like to wear them. This is very much a "how-to" video, and by watching it, you will know how to make yucca sandals yourself. These ancient techniques are becoming lost to time. My hope is that by posting this video, more people will learn this technique and will share it and pass it on to others.
