Maradona
Maradona Many years ago - 1986 - I was practicing while watching sports, something I still do sometimes. I was watching the World Cup. Argentina against West Germany. It was an amazing match. I really didn’t follow soccer (football) but I was amazed at the guy and this ball of energy and clearly heroic playing. Somehow I knew history was being made, regardless of the “hand of god” controversy and subsequent hatred, I saw a country transformed. The entire country or stadium in Mexico City was transported in ways I’d never witnessed, even on TV. While watching this I wrote this song. It just came out. It’s like an anthem for Argentina. I know the danger of doing ANYTHING for any kind of sports figure. Few beyond Ali and Michael Jordan can pass without criticism. Many told me I need to change the title. Too late for that. It is what it was. Featuring the core HRG band of Henry Robinett - Guitar Joe Gilman - Piano Jacam Manricks - Tenor Sax Ben Kopf - Bass Cameron Womack Drum. Video by Phillip Kampel, Steve Dunne, Erin Campbell, Janel Hernandez. Recorded by Eduardo Garza. Video editing and audio mixing my Henry Robinett.
