Marianne 1, 2021
Marianne is a Covid-19 story. No it's really not, but during the pandemic we found this creepy porcelain doll in my apartment so decided to write and shoot a short horror. It turned out to be 25 minutes long in the end, and starred Marianne the Doll, Andrew the father, Jen the mother, Capri the daughter, and Teresa the Young Woman. We had a lot of fun writing and filming, and then it was a slog learning to edit and colour correct the thing. It isn't perfect, but we are going to write and film one every summer until Capri hits high school - so at least 3 more! Technical details are boring. The truth is it is a low-budget project intended to give us something to do over a lonely summer. It's a 100% success in that regard! We used 2 cameras, a Canon T3 and a T3i, filmed in 1080 and edited in 720 to simulate camera movement. The T3i had a Tascam field recorder mounted to it, and then I wrote the music and recorded sound effects in Pro Tools, using my instruments and an AKG C414 mic. All the John Carpenter style soundtrack parts were recorded using an AKAI MPKmini and an assortment of soft synths, and I played a Takamine 12 string. Our "lighting" was a lamp I made named Precious, and a few ring lights I grabbed from Amazon and the dollar store. The original upload had quiet audio so this is a remastered audio version.
