Marinetek Breakwater Pontoon Case Study Marinetek designs, manufactures and installs floating pontoons and marinas. This case video shows how a large wave attenuator, or a breakwater pontoon, was delivered to Saguenay, Canada. The breakwater doubles as a cruise passenger pier. It creates a strong, safe basin for tour boats in extremely demanding conditions: The breakwater attenuates aggressive waves of 7,5 ft (2,3 meters). It must withstand 3 ft (1 meter) thick ice in the winter and daily tides of 23 ft (6,9 meters). Engineering and design were done in Finland. Prototype was tested in wave tank laboratories in Finland (VTT) and in Croatia. The huge concrete pontoons were manufactured in Croatia, shipped to Canada and installed onsite. Deep uneven seabed made the anchoring of the breakwater pontoon a challenge. Yet, the breakwater was installed quickly thanks to the simple structure and strong joint connections of the pontoons. www.marinetek.net
