Here we have an early design, a one off design, of a Mark Hill knife (Hillbill on bushcraftUK, British Blades and other forums), The knife is being batoned lengthways into a limb of 12 month seasoned english oak with a view to perforate the limb so that it can be cut without use of a saw or axe.
The only reason the Yew scales failed is that the mallet being used on the knife was very uneven and was striking the knife on the scale itself and not on the tang.
