Markovniov’s rule used to find the structure of major regioisomer formed after the electrophilic addition of an unsymmetrical reagent to an unsymmetrical alkene or unsymmetrical alkyne. According to this rule during electrophilic addition of an unsymmetrical reagent to an unsymmetrical alkene or alkyne thepositive portion of the reagent preferentially goes to the side of the double that has more hydrogens.
