Mastercam Tutorial: When to Use Curve Drill 5-axis vs Contour Toolpath
Learn more about Mastercam multiaxis at https://www.mlc-cad.com/mastercam/add-ons/multiaxis/ In this Mastercam tutorial, we guide you on the effective usage of Curve Drill 5X and Contour functionalities. We demonstrate this with an example featuring two parts with different geometries. The first part with radial symmetry is efficiently machined using contoured axis substitution. However, when the walls of the part do not point towards the center, simple axis substitution gets ineffective. Here, we introduce Curve Drill 5X, illustrating how it helps in maintaining control despite the changing walls. The video also mentions Swarf Milling briefly, but its detailed exploration is not covered in this tutorial. By the end of the tutorial, you will be equipped with criteria to decide which tool, Contour or Curve Drill 5X, is best suited for your task. 00:00 Introduction to Curve Drill 5X 00:04 Understanding Contour vs Curve Drill 5X 01:09 Demonstration: Using Contour for Axis Substitution 03:12 Exploring the Limitations of Simple Axis Substitution 03:28 Demonstration: Using Curve Drill 5X for Complex Shapes 03:49 Understanding the Motion of the Toolpath 04:45 Demonstration: Selecting and Controlling the Toolpath 06:11 Analyzing the Results of Curve Drill 5X 07:13 Conclusion: When to Use Contour vs Curve Drill 5X @mastercam #mastercam #multiaxis #CNC
