Math Problem Solving Strategies - Chapter 3: Make a Table

A table is a good tool to organize and display data and its characteristics. It helps you to quickly record the data, locate the data, spot missing data, and discover pattern. Although organized list (in Chapter 2) is also used to list data, it is more for keeping track of counts, whereas a table is mainly for displaying data to show the characteristics and relationship. Lower grade students find table easy to use before they are introduced to algebra.
