On May 30, 2024, the Government of Ontario announced that the Mathematics Proficiency Test (MPT) will be reinstated as a certification requirement for teachers in Ontario as of February 1, 2025.
Applicants who submit a complete application to the Ontario College of Teachers (the College) for a general Certificate of Qualification and Registration (CQR) on or after February 1, 2025, must successfully pass the MPT. This applies whether or not the application was started before February 1, 2025.
An application is only considered complete when the College receives all required documentation, including proof of completion of an initial teacher education program, to the satisfaction of the Registrar.
