Mattityahu (Matthew) Chapter 26
Mattityahu (Matthew) Chapter 26 begins two days before Pesach (Passover) with Yeshua (Jesus) warning His talmidim (disciples) of His impending fate. While the Cohen Hagadol (High Priest) and elders plotted His arrest, Yeshua was anointed with expensive perfume for burial at the house of Shim'on (Simon), which His talmidim initially found wasteful. Y'hudah (Judas) then betrayed Yeshua for 30 silver coins. Yeshua and His talmidim prepared the Seder (ordered ceremonial meal ushering in Passover) , where He revealed one of the talmidim would betray Him. During the Seder, Yeshua blessed and shared matzah (unleavened bread) as His body and wine as His blood, which ratified the New Covenant for the forgiveness of sins. After singing Hallel (Praise), they went to the Mount of Olives, where Yeshua predicted His talmidim would lose faith and scatter, and Kefa (Peter) would disown Him three times before the rooster crowed. In Gat-Sh'manim (Gethsemane) Yeshua prayed for "this cup" to pass from Him, but also for God's will to be done, despite His anguish, He then rebuked His sleeping disciples, whom He had asked to remain awake with Him, urging them to pray they not be tested. He prayed three times, accepting God's will. Upon returning, he woke His again sleeping disciples, announcing His betrayer's arrival. Y'hudah (Judas) then kissed Yeshua, signaling to the crowd to arrest him. One of His talmidim drew his sword, cutting off a servant's ear, but Yeshua told him to sheath it, stating this must happen to fulfill prophecy. Yeshua questioned the crowd's armed approach, noting He had taught daily in the Temple without being seized. His disciples then abandoned Him as He had foretold. Yeshua was led to the Cohen Hagadol, with Kefa following. The Sanhedrin sought false evidence against Yeshua, but found no cause for execution. Two men testified about His words concerning the Temple. The Cohen Hagadol questioned Yeshua about this, but He remained silent until asked under oath if He was the Mashiach (Messiah). Yeshua confirmed this, stating they would see the Son of Man at the right hand of HaG'vurah (The Power/God). The Cohen Hagadol condemned Yeshua as a blasphemer, and the Sanhedrin declared him guilty, beating Him, spitting on Him, and mocking Him while doing so. While this was happening, Kefa, who was waiting outside, denied knowing Yeshua three times to different people, even swearing an oath. After the rooster crowed, he remembered Yeshua's words, went outside, and wept bitterly. This chapter clearly emphasizes that Yeshua's arrest and the events leading up to His execution were foretold by the prophets. #truth #bible #newtestament #gospelofmatthew #yeshuahamashiach #pesach #lastsupper #gethsemane #condemnedtodeath
