Noise in computer graphics is a "procedural" texture. That means, it can be created and modified with a more or less simple mathematical function. A file texture e. g. is not procedural. Maya has had its own Noise texture since version 1. The Noise module in Arnold is much more advanced and modern – and a pleasure to tweak. In this tutorial I apply the "aiNoise" as a bump map. That means: The Noise creates irregularities (fake hills and valleys) on that surface. it looks great! If you want to familiarize yourself with the differences between bump and displacement maps, check out this tutorial: https://youtu.be/moqrqZ_DfAw ... and for a more artistic point of view, see https://youtu.be/U9DMamSUzuY The music: "Computer Animation" and "Kleiner Knirps", composed and performed by me, Maximilian Schönherr, licensed via GEMA, Germany.
