Measuring the foot

This video is a demonstration of the way I measure feet for cowboy boots. As I say in the video, every boot and shoemaker measures differently, so it is not intended to show a better way of measuring. If you know and understand another method, stay with it. It is also not intended to be a substitute for a visit to your bootmaker to be measured. I insist on personally meeting and measuring each client. The purpose of this video is so that students who come to my shop to learn bootmaking can see my method and arrive with measurements taken the way I do it, if they plan to make boots for friends or family while they're learning. On the other hand, the pedograph is a valuable tool. If you make shoes or boots and are not currently using a pedograph I highly recommend you buy one and add it to your measuring process.
