Median and Mode

This video came from my notes. The idea of an “average” often hides more than it reveals because the center of a data set depends on what perspective you choose. The mean describes balance by accounting for every value and its distance from the center, which makes it useful but easily distorted by extreme outliers. The median defines the center by position, splitting ordered data into two equal halves and remaining stable even when a few values are unusually large or small. The mode identifies the most frequent outcome, highlighting what is most common rather than what balances the data. Together, mean, median, and mode show that there is no single true middle, only different centers that answer different questions, and choosing the right one determines whether the story your data tells is misleading or honest.
