Melodic & Single String Banjo Workshop Series: Session 1 preview
There's still time to join me for "Melodic & Single-String Banjo," my new workshop series for Peghead Nation. The first live workshop is this Saturday, January 22nd at 1 p.m. Eastern via Zoom. In this first session, we'll examine how major scales are constructed and then compare and contrast how scales are played using melodic & single-string techniques. In other words, I'll teach how how to fish right from the beginning! We'll work out "The Girl I Left Behind Me" using both techniques and we'll move on to a brand new easy melodic version of "Cripple Creek." We'll close with an analysis of Bill Keith's 1963 recording of "Devil's Dream," a melodic banjo classic. Take note that this is for all levels of players: if you're new to these styles, you'll learn through a systematic approach how to use each technique and play a bunch of great tunes in the process. If you're an intermediate or advanced player, we'll soon be looking at using melodic & single-string techniques to work up fiddle tunes, jazz and more. We'll learn how to use these techniques to play in different keys and we'll explore melodic and single-string left-hand fretting positions all up and down the neck. And tunes? Yep, plenty of them! I'll post a link in the comments section for more info on this workshop series. I hope you'll join me!
