Memory Cells - Magic Touch
This is what a third album by Memory Cells might have sounded like if the band had continued for another year or so. It's a work in progress glimpse at what might have been. The title Magnetic Touch and the theme of magic and magnetism date from the period, including many of the original track titles. Memory Cells' self-released second album, We Have Found The New Jerusalem, and a split 7" on Road-Relish had been released in May 2001 and the band played their first and last gigs in Dublin and Belfast the same month. For various reasons this would be the public end of the group but its spirit lived on (their dream was not over). They remained friends and in that uncertain time the possibility of getting back together and making a third album loomed but never materialised. After nearly a year of musical inactivity, there was one final recording session in March 2002 at a rehearsal room in Dublin's City Arts Centre. The recordings for this album are a mixture of tracks not used for New Jerusalem, new music from after that album was recorded and the final session. Anthony's twin brother Dave Carroll (of The Wormholes) joined them on the latter, as he had done occasionally on unreleased home recordings before. The twelve tracks of Magnetic Touch were all recorded live to two-track by Stephen Rennicks. 23 years later and with Adrienne Flynn's approval and support, he went back to those original tapes to edit, mix, sequence and come up with a cover design for this version of the long-time coming Magnetic Touch. This album is dedicated to Anthony Carroll (1970-2024) and Dave Carroll (1970-2019).and could be viewed as coming from their vast 'Shoebox Tapes' archive. From which, one more album of unreleased Memory Cells music is planned. https://memorycells.bandcamp.com/album/magnetic-touch
