Like many sugar mills, Merican originally shipped out its production sugar in small box vans to the nearest main line station, in this case over a narrow river bridge. When that finished, the mill kept the vans to shuttle the sugar to its warehouse but used tractors for it.
On 22nd August 1996, I had persuaded the mill to bring some of the vans to the main yard to recreate a scene which probably had not been seen for around 20 years. Sadly some of the connecting track was in a poor state and a derailment or two limited the opportunities but eventually OK 0-4-2T 4 was able to muster a 'trundle' for our small group just before the light failed.
