Equipped with a monocoque structure that was advanced for the time, a lightweight yet highly rigid body, and an easy-to-handle 1.8L inline-four B-series engine, it received rave reviews from the get-go. In the 1970s, in response to stricter safety standards, particularly in the US market, higher ride height and rubber bumpers with improved impact absorption were introduced, and the 1976 model year also belongs to this "rubber bumper period." The 1976 model also featured improved suspension and interior comfort, resulting in a well-balanced car that is easy to handle even on long-distance journeys. With a total production of over 500,000 units, the MGB series is known as one of the most successful British sports cars in history.
