This video shows an unusual bend in rear coil spring. The 1990 Miata in this video was experiencing a strange vibration while driving.
Further exploration found that the strut mount (aka: Top Hat) on the right rear had broken / separated.
Update: Now that the strut mount has been replaced, the spring sits perfectly and the car rides much smoother.
