Microplastic Water Sample Preparation Protocol

This video runs through the laboratory-based processing of field-collected water in Dr. Erika Holland's EcoTox lab at CSU Long Beach. Kara Wiggins demonstrates the steps to digest non-plastic organic matter and then stain plastic items with Nile Red prior to both standard enumeration and fluorescent enumeration of microplastic with microscopes. This video was created in support of our CSU COAST Workshop on Microplastic Characterization.
