Microsoft Excel ACM Quick Tip - How to use the VLOOKUP function
Welcome to an ACM quick tip video. This lesson will be on using the VLOOKUP function. -This function comes in handy when we have a very large set of data and we’re trying to find something within the data or specific row. Note that VLOOKUP will not return multiple values if there are more than one “LOOKUP VALUE” or ‘search item’ within the column. So in column G on our spreadsheet, there are more than one Franklinton’s and Dublin’s. This function will not return all those values. PIVOT TABLE VIDEO - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41S4B2U02Ws&t=15s -When your data is organized, select a cell where you want the value or data to appear once we establish all the criteria of the VLOOKUP function. -Then type in = SIGN, VLOOKUP, PARENTHESIS. -For the first criteria, select a cell where you want to type in your “search”. This is the LOOKUP VALUE, or what you will be searching for in order to find the value within that same row. Once you have that, hit COMMMA. -Next part is to highlight all the data you want to include in your search. Type COMMA once complete. -Then we type in the column number which includes the value we want returned. This number starts from the first column of your selected data. In this case we want the second one over, so we type in number 2. COMMA. -Last criteria: select TRUE if you want an approximate match. Select FALSE if you want an exact match. END PARENTHESIS. -Now when we search for an area in our lookup value cell, it sorts through the data, finds a match, then returns the value in the same row for the column we specified.
