Samuel Johnson's (no relation to Burgoldt Studley Johnson) 115 Class 4-2-2 express locomotive for the Midland Railway was a Derby winner. With elegant good looks and enormous 7ft 9in diameter driving wheels, it was more than capable of handling Midland passenger trains north. Rapidly outlcassed by the larger 2601 class, the 115 Class remained in service until the end of the Midland in 1923 with the last one, No. 673 being withdrawn by the LMS in 1928 and today forms part of the National Collection.
