Mining Problems and Changing Course - Solo Minecraft: Java Edition Part 10

So as you can probably tell by this point, I am terrible at being able to find any ores of value except copper, so I tried to mine near the river, which led nowhere. I improved the floor of my home, and tried using on screen coordinates to get may bearings so that I could be at diamond level, but alas... nothing came up. Come join my suffering.
