Mission & Biz Engineering
Here we introduce Mission and Business Engineering (MBE) as an essential meta-discipline designed to ensure mission coherence within complex, multi-actor ecosystems. The authors argue that traditional engineering often fails because the technical solution, the project management structure, and the organizational capability evolve independently, leading to systemic misalignment. To resolve this, MBE utilizes an Architecture of Intent based on the principles of Fit, Form, and Function to align these three interacting systems. By treating the entire enterprise as a "system-of-interest," the framework addresses the rigid barriers created by contracts and siloed optimization. Ultimately, the materials provide a strategic roadmap for leaders to engineer adaptable organizations capable of delivering successful outcomes in dynamic or adversarial environments.
