The mobile network consists of a portable base station — a small box that can fit in the back of a military vehicle — that reaches out to individual small cells and mobile towers.
Warfighters on the move who need to establish a base of operations can “quickly set up a 5G communications network [that] covers that area."
The system can also be easily broken down and transported and can operate on the move. “If I’ve got 5G in a column of vehicles, and I’ve got a base station, it may not have access to other communications, but all those vehicles are connected to the 5G.”
The base station, while relatively simple, requires a technician to assemble, but the system can also be preconfigured to make it easier to get up and running for troops. When preconfigured, assembly takes about 15 minutes.
