Modular Photonics Platform for Faster R&D and Prototyping

Yuji Iwai introduces Hamamatsu’s modular photonics platform, designed to simplify and accelerate R&D and proof-of-concept development. He highlights how these projects typically require expertise across multiple domains—optics, sensors, light sources, electronics, and engineering—which can be overwhelming. The platform addresses this by providing a flexible, modular setup using mostly off-the-shelf components (with some custom parts), allowing users to easily collect data, analyze results, and swap components to optimize performance. Demonstrated applications include caffeine concentration measurement and material classification using spectrometers and a xenon flash lamp.
