Logical operations on digital images involve operations like AND, OR, and NOT, primarily used in binary image processing for tasks such as masking, feature detection, and shape analysis. These operations are fundamental tools in manipulating binary images, where foreground pixels are often represented as 1 and background pixels as 0. Types of Logical Operations Logical operations commonly used in image processing include AND, OR, NOT, and XOR. The logical operations can be performed between two images or between an image and a constant value. AND Operation The AND operation compares the corresponding pixels in two images. The output pixel is 1 only if both corresponding pixels are 1; otherwise, it is 0. OR Operation The OR operation compares the corresponding pixels in two images. The output pixel is 1 if either of the corresponding pixels is 1; it is 0 only if both pixels are 0. NOT Operation The NOT operation inverts the value of each pixel in an image. If a pixel is 1, NOT changes it to 0, and vice versa. Applications of Logical Operations Logical operations are utilized for masking, feature detection, and shape analysis in binary image processing.
