In mathematics, a monomial is a single term consisting of a product of a coefficient and one or more variables raised to non-negative integer exponents. For example, 3x, 5xy, and 2x^2y^3z are all monomials. A monomial can have multiple variables, and the variables can have different exponents. The degree of a monomial is the sum of the exponents of all its variables. For example, the degree of 2x^2y^3z is 2+3+1=6. Monomials are commonly used in algebra, especially in polynomial functions, where they are added or subtracted together to form polynomial expressions.
