MOPE GROOVES - Joy

To complement the bright, cheery mood you’re all surely in, I bring you one of Portland’s finest purveyors of mushy, fuzz-ridden garage pop – but if I were to guess, I’d say that city probably has a lot of those. Nonetheless, I imagine there aren’t many who could say they aren’t suckers, if not secretly, for Mope Grooves titillating brand of upbeat, inventive lo-fi pop, tasty licks and toe-tapping rhythms aplenty. This group’s newest tape – set to be released on Portland’s See My Friends Records later this month – is no different, possessing a much wider, more satisfying range of sounds than previously presented, their charming feel of bedroom-brewed sensibilities alone being more than enough to satisfy those desperately in need of a new set of mellow melodies. I’d write more but, y’know. Why try? Mope Grooves intends to set off on a 45-day tour between mid-March to mid-May, coasting along the northern-most states via Astrovan.
