Most Golfers Get Face-to-Path COMPLETELY WRONG
If you want to hit a controlled push draw, you need to understand one thing: Curvature is controlled by face relative to path. In this lesson, I break down how to manage the clubface-to-path relationship — with a specific focus on how the trail shoulder and trail forearm influence face control. 🎯 The Goal Start the ball right. Curve it left. That requires: • Face right of target (controls start line) • Face closed relative to path (controls curvature) Face-to-path is an impact condition — but we can preset the environment that makes it easier to deliver. 🚩 Common Amateur Misses • Starts left, stays left → Pull hooks • Starts right, stays right → Blocks / deflected fades In most cases, these issues stem from the trail shoulder sitting in excessive internal rotation — which changes how the face behaves relative to the path through impact. 🔁 Building the Push Draw 1️⃣ Clubface Setup (Presetting Face-to-Path Intention) At address, we preset a face orientation relative to the intended path. • The clubface is slightly right of target. • An alignment stick along the shaft helps confirm face awareness. • A slight forward press can increase the rightward face bias. • This builds the expectation of the face-to-path relationship we want to deliver. You don’t create face-to-path at setup — but you absolutely influence what shows up at impact. 2️⃣ Trail Shoulder & Forearm Control (Curvature Control) The key is managing: • Trail shoulder external rotation • Trail forearm awareness Internal rotation tends to: • Shut the face excessively relative to the path • Create pull patterns • Force compensations like early extension External rotation helps: • Keep the trail arm more in front • Stabilize face delivery relative to the path • Allow the face to be slightly closed relative to path — not flipped 🧠 Smart Ball Drill Use a Smart Ball with a visible line: Finish position checkpoint: • Line perpendicular to the ground • Parallel to the target line • Clubface toe straight up That confirms proper shoulder organization and face control relative to path. Curvature is not random. It’s governed by face relative to path. If you control that relationship — you control the shape. 👇 Drop your questions in the comments.
