In this short 2 minute video, Hopefully i answer all your question. What is over indexing? as an example lets say you have got a 5.5 kW multi split condenser which has three ports that allows us to connect three, internal air conditioning units. They could be wall mounts, ducted, floor mounts or cassettes. What indexing mean on the internal side of things is , lets keep it simple. You've got an indoor living room with a 3.5 kW unit and two bedrooms at 2 kW, that adds up to 7.5 kW. What we can do is connect that to your 5.5 kW outdoor unit. What is often asked to us is, why is the indoor unit over indexed to the outdoor unit? Well this is where the efficiency and practicality and the effectiveness of the multi split air conditioning unit comes into play. Predominantly in the UK we go to bed at night and we don't sleep down stairs. If we have got three and a half kW unit working downstairs during the day, and having one of the bedrooms perhaps a study bedroom being used, the 5.5 outdoor unit is being used efficiently. In the evening you turn the downstairs unit off waste of capacity of the unit and now you are using the second bedroom which is a 2 kW unit. So you now 4 kW indoor units been run from the 5.5 kW multi air conditioning unit. That is why we over index. Flexibility Over indexing allows us to be very flexible where you have some big conservatries with heat gains or some really smaller bedrooms where you don't actually need a lot of duty. What it allows us to do is predominantly as an accurate measure to go 150% of the outdoor unit capacity. On the market the biggest outdoor unit we can achieve is a 12 kW by two brands. that will allow us to go to a comfortable 16-17 kW and allow the whole house to be covered by a single condenser At the moment under planning regulations and permitted development a single outdoor unit is what we are really trying to achieve. Costs The most expensive part of most air conditioning quotations including our is the outdoor unit. So what i like to say is, if we can keep it as cheap as possible then why not? The cost predominantly across the board from a 5.5 kW to a 7.5 kW is around 350 pounds. would you ever get the energy savings from 350 pounds? If you were to upgrade over five years ? Probably not. Secondly to go from a 7 to a 12 your looking at 500-600 pounds. So when we do look at over indexing it sometimes saves you on flexibility, the cost and it just makes sense. If if you do have a solid desire to have consistent temperature in all rooms throughout the house over indexing isn't for you. Summary Over indexing can be really effective in keeping cost down, it allows us to be flexible to have one outdoor unit in most cases and it allows more internal unit off that single outdoor unit.
