Lord Muruga, also known as Kartikeya, Skanda, and Subramanya, is a revered deity in Hinduism, particularly in Tamil traditions and South Indian culture. He is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and the younger brother of Lord Ganesha. Muruga is widely worshipped as the god of war, victory, and wisdom. Muruga is often depicted as a youthful and dynamic figure, riding a peacock and holding a spear (Vel) in his hand, which symbolizes his divine weapon of power and knowledge. His form represents both the might of a warrior and the grace of a divine being. The Vel is considered a sacred symbol of protection and spiritual enlightenment, wielded by Muruga to vanquish evil and ignorance. He is also known as the "Commander of the Divine Army," having played a key role in defeating the demon Tarakasura, who represented the forces of evil and darkness. Muruga's victory over Tarakasura is celebrated in many Hindu festivals, especially during Skanda Shasti, which marks his battle and triumph. Lord Muruga is believed to have six divine abodes, known as the Arupadaiveedu, scattered across Tamil Nadu, where devotees embark on pilgrimages seeking his blessings for courage, victory, and wisdom. Devotees pray to him for protection, guidance in overcoming challenges, and the strength to follow the righteous path. Muruga’s association with the peacock, a creature symbolizing beauty and grace, also signifies his control over desires and ego. In addition to his warrior persona, Muruga embodies qualities of knowledge, youthfulness, and divine power, making him a beloved figure for those seeking spiritual growth and strength in their life’s battles.
