Many users skip this powerful tool because it seems confusing at first, but once you understand how it works, you'll see how essential it is for building efficient workflows. The split out node takes an individual item containing a list and splits it into separate items, allowing you to process each one independently—a game changer when dealing with APIs, grouped data, or multiple records. I walk through four real-world examples to show you exactly how to use the split out node. First, we start with JSON data, splitting to-do tasks by priority and routing them through conditional logic. Next, I demonstrate filtering Google Sheets data, though I also explain why I prefer the edit set node for this use case. The third example covers splitting arrays, where you'll see how to transform one array into multiple individual items. Finally, we combine everything together by splitting array data from a spreadsheet, expanding 10 rows into 30 individual items with specific songs, bands, and genres. By the end of this tutorial, you'll understand when and why to use the split out node, how to avoid overcomplicating your workflows, and how to process data more efficiently.
