Nail Parallel Compression: Perfect Drum Mixing with Waves API 2500

Getting your drums to cut through a mix with your home recordings can be a challenge. Often we look at adding compression to help, but in reality how we are using compression may actually make things worse. Today we're going to look at a better and more advanced way of compressing your drums in the DAW. This is called Parallel Compression (i.e. parallel processing or New York drum compression) and will work wonders compared to the traditional style of compressing a drum mix (i.e. inline compression). Using this technique, you'll be able to push your drums up higher (hotter) in the mix, without them losing their sonic fidelity. For our examples, we demonstrate first a "problem" scenario using the UAD UA 1176LN Legacy compressor in an inline style setup. Then we'll show to who to correctly compress your drums by switching to a Parallel Compression setup using the Waves API 2500 stereo bus compressor.
