Counter-hits in NASB exist. If you have noticed weird trajectories during your combos sometimes, it's probably because of this system.
Hitting your opponents during the startup, active, or recoveries of this move cause this effect.
There are some minor details I'm still unsure about, but this video gives a brief overview of the mechanic, so you know what to look for.
As far as I'm currently aware, recoveries aren't affected by this system.
