Violin- Angela Varo Piano- Roella Oloro There's something so hauntingly beautiful about Wayne Shorter's music. It bears testament to the compassionate and kind-hearted soul that he is! I teamed up with Angela Varo -an incredible Spanish violinist and fellow Berklee student- to create this arrangement of his tune Nefertiti! It was an absolute pleasure to meet him (remotely via zoom!) and play our rendition for him. He shared so many inspirational stories about other jazz legends and his composition process behind some of his greatest songs. His ability to be constantly regenerating with his talent is unparalleled! I truly felt like I was in a dream, talking to Wayne Shorter from the comfort of my living room...!! Massive thanks to our teacher Terri Lyne Carrington and the Jazz and Gender Justice Institute for making the meeting possible!!
