Never Quit
This training session is part of my 12-week preparation for the First Line Initiative 250 lb Sandbag Mile Challenge. On August 1st, 2026, I will attempt to carry a 250 lb sandbag for one mile. The rules are simple: Unlimited drops allowed. But the weight only moves forward when you pick it back up. This session was a reminder that the hardest part is not always the weight itself. Sometimes it’s the moment after you drop it. The moment your lungs are burning, your arms are tired, your grip is failing, and your brain starts telling you that you’ve done enough. That is the moment that matters. Because in training, in life, in recovery, and in mental wellness, there will always be moments where quitting feels reasonable. The goal is not to pretend the weight is light. The goal is to pick it back up anyway. This challenge is tied to the First Line Initiative, my effort to bring more awareness and honest conversation to first responder mental wellness, resilience, and the invisible weight many people carry every day. This is bigger than a sandbag. It’s about learning how to keep moving forward when everything in you wants to stop. The work continues.
