Well, the good news is that I launched at a new-to-me launch site, on some Arizona Trust Land. I visited the Arizona Trust Land website, paid $15 for an annual individual permit, secured a certificate and parking pass, then looked for Trust Land spots on the AZ land map (found on the website) for my county. The state is covered with this type of property! The spot I found is about 35 miles from my home, which is much closer than my club sites or other sites I use to launch low and mid power model rockets. This property is true to form urban desert landscape, with scrub, mid sized trees and tons of hard pan, rock covered, fin popping open area! The "bad" news is that my first flights here all ended in rocket damage. I have never had so much damage in one session. But, "that's the hobby!" And open area is needed to enjoy this hobby. And, since I live in the desert such open land tends to be desert landscape. So I fly in the desert or I don't. (Well, I do launch on a few well groomed grassy fields, but only A and B motors!) This day, I launched an Ugly Ducking "Alpha-type" model (which I lost and is not shown on this video), a first flight Estes "Executioner," my venerable Quest "Icarus," an Estes "Stratocruiser" with a camera strapped to its side, and finally a Custom Rocket Company "Razor" that I've modified to fly 24mm motors. I'd list all the damage here, but you will see all that if you have the stomach to watch such carnage... Good news is that I ended the day with some perfect flights! Those I will show on a follow up video. For now, this video will be like coming to a car race to see the wrecks. Enjoy!
