Heckerlied is a revolutionary song from the Baden Revolution of 1848/1849. Friedrich Hecker attempted to gather revolutionaries in Baden through the Heckerzug from Konstanz, aiming to seize the capital city, Karlsruhe, and overthrow the grand ducal government. After this uprising was crushed by Prussian and Hessian troops in the Battle of the Scheideck on April 20, 1848, Hecker and most of the participants fled to Switzerland. Hecker never returned to Baden and eventually emigrated permanently to the USA.
