No Longer I
No Longer I Verse 1 When You said to Adam, "It is not good for man to be alone." This was also Your feeling from the bottom of Your heart: That You desire a counterpart, To live with You for ever and ever. So You created man in Your own image. Because of this divine desire, from the moment of every birth, Is a yearning to be deserved, to build a world of goodliness Full of peace and light and love. But though the will is there, the inner nature is just gloom, For all things were fashioned from the dust of the ground. Pre-Chorus That is why wars never cease upon the earth, From the smallest family to country to country. And man grows more lonely, Harder and harder to find sympathy among each other. Chorus So there is no one, but Only You, There is not even one on all the earth, Not even one righteous man is found. There is only You, Only You alone, Whose holiness and goodliness remains perfect forevermore. Having loved Your own who were in the world, You loved them to the uttermost. Bridge So today, no longer of my wills, nor of me who runs, But of You who shows mercy. I am crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, But it is Christ who lives in me. Outro Joys and sorrows are passing away, And the world is passing away, But he who does the will of God abides forever. ========================= The lyrics are deeply rooted in these scriptural foundations: 1. The Desire for a Counterpart Genesis 2:18: "And Jehovah God said, It is not good for man to be alone; I will make him a helper as his counterpart." Genesis 1:26: "And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness..." 2. The Frailty of the Old Man Romans 3:10: Even as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one; Genesis 2:7: "And Jehovah God formed man from the dust of the ground..." 3. Crucifixion and Living by Christ (The Central Theme) Galatians 2:20: I am crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Romans 9:16: So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. 4. The Eternal Will of God 1 John 2:17: "And the world is passing away, and its lust, but he who does the will of God abides forever." John 13:1: "...having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the uttermost."
